Clubs/Workshops

Technical theatre club

In January 2022 I joined the technical group at the Queen's Theatre, Hornchurch. I had been a part of their acting group since I was 7 but decided that technical theatre would be better for me to be creative outside of school. We had weekly sessions with master classes and workshops where we learnt about the different technical roles in the theatre. In the summer term, a musical would be put on with the whole youth theatre (about 150 kids) which my group would then get to support backstage.

In summer 2022 I was part of a show called Never Never which was written for the youth theatre, I worked as an ASM - assistant stage manager on the show.

In summer 2024, we put on a production of SpongeBob the musical. We worked hands on creating the props for the show. I helped create a miniature chum bucket and also 3 big models of the abbreviation 'BFF' that would be worn by actors during one of the songs in the show. The letters were created using recycled cortex sheets which were then scrimmed and covered with hessian using PVA and water solution. We had to cut out arm holes and a view point so the actors knew where they were running to. The director wanted to focus on sustainability so a lot of the props were created using recycling or pre-loved things.

During the actual show I operated the followspot, which is when a spotlight follows an actor.

We had a model box workshop, in 2023, where we were given an era and tasked with making a model of a room from a house.

I was given the 70's and decided to make a bathroom. I started by creating a moodboard of all my ideas and colour palette which helped me develop my thoughts. Then over 3 two hour sessions I brought the idea to life.

London film school production design workshop

In April 2024 I completed a week long course for production design in film.

We had talks from the art director and one of the production managers from the tv show 'The end of the F***ing world'. We talked about the process that goes into getting the shot and how it all comes together behind the scenes.

At the end of the week we produced a model box based on a script we had been given. It was interesting to see everyone different ideas.

We started moodboarding this model box and added things like key colours and fabrics we wanted to incorporate before making them. we were only given 2 hours to create them and limited supplies.

After they were completed we filmed them in different lighting which would be used to convey emotion across during the scene.
